Cairns Fencing commercial estimator Anthony Baker said the lead up to Christmas and the end of the financial year, however, were the busiest periods for the company. He said frameless glass fencing and balustrading was the biggest seller and was guaranteed to stand the test of time and changing trends.“We do a lot of glass going up internal stair wells, and the internal voids the stairs create,” Mr Baker said. “With all the gorgeous views and rainforest around homes people like a nice clear, unrestricted view into their backyard, to the beach, or over the mountains.“There is a lot of diversity with who is buying it, too. It’s not as expensive as it used to be.“We do everything from high-end houses in Port Douglas to a patio for a pool in suburban Cairns and we finish the rest off with alumium along the garden edges.“A lot of people can afford it in smaller quantities and it looks great.”Mr Baker said fencing with automatic gates was also popular with smart home technology meaning many could be operated from a mobile phone wherever the owner or operator was located.“Sliding gates more popular than swinging gates but different landscapes prevent us doing some styles,” he said.“You can retrofit almost anything onto gates, too. “We also do a lot of horizontal aluminum flats with various gaps, and some customers opt for fences with louvres which are good for privacy and can let the breeze into a yard or patio.”The Cairns Fencing team has also just completed the installation of chain mesh fencing the Northern Cycleway’s extension through Stratford, Freshwater and RedlynchThere is also high demand for security fencing in indigenous communities on Cape York.More from newsCairns home ticks popular internet search terms2 days agoTen auction results from ‘active’ weekend in Cairns2 days agoEdge Hill resident Erina Williams opted for a different style of fencing to help provide privacy for the guests at her Woodward St Airbnb property and create a unique aesthetic. She said the rusted metal panels with a stencilled design would continue to change as they weathered. “We wanted something a little bit different. When I looked around the Cairns environment, it is very harsh, so this is quite hardy,” Mrs Williams said.“We’ve had it there a year and everyone loves it. “I bought it from Bunnings and got my landscape gardener to install it so it was very cost effective. “It is mainly locals who get comments on how great it looks when they’re driving past. When it first went up everyone flowed past to look at it.”last_img
