Being a Purdue graduate, it would be easy for me to make some kind of derogatory remark about IU. However, the situations that have occurred at IU since last season are unfortunate. Too many times we see college athletes making the news in a negative way.Six basketball players have had run-ins with local law enforcement all dealing with some type of substance abuse. It has been reported that 2 of these athletes have repeated run-ins with the law. It all started late in the last basketball season, recurred in April, and then earlier this month. This means that half of Tom Crean’s roster have, or will have, suspensions placed upon them. When an athlete is recruited, you hope your program keeps them focused on academics and athletics. Too often these young athletes use their new-found freedom to get into trouble. This is now unique to IU, and unfortunately, it is happening way too often at too many universities.
