Power doesn’t mean everything, however, as the two systems’ raw horse power doesn’t appear to make them more desirable. According to a recent survey, folks in the United States are more interested in the comparatively weaker console/handheld hybrid Nintendo Switch.According to the Nielsen Games 360 Report, 16 percent of gamers aged 13 and above said they would buy a Nintendo Switch. 15 percent said they would buy a PlayStation 4 Pro, while 13 percent said they wanted a Scorpio. These percentages come from a pool of over 2,000 participants. For non-gamers, 12 percent want a Switch, 11 percent a PS4 Pro, and 9 percent a Scorpio (a system, we should note, has yet to be fully unveiled).Things are a bit different when participants were asked about their interest for the standard PS4 and Xbox One. 21 percent of gamers and 15 percent of general audiences want to buy a standard PS4. 17 percent of gamers and 12 percent of non-gamers desired an Xbox One. General audiences seem to have the same level of interest for Xbox One and Switch. The report also broke down awareness of each platform. 77 percent of gamers 13 and older have heard of the PS4, while 27 percent know about the PS4 Pro. 72 percent of those polled know about the Xbox One, with 14 percent for Scorpio. Amusingly, 9 percent of those polled have no knowledge of any of these systems. On the general consumer side, 69 percent know about the PS4, 61 percent know about Xbox One, and 22 percent know about Switch. 21 percent have knowledge about the PS4 Pro, while only 11 percent know about Scorpio. While they may change following E3 and into the holidays, seeing these sort of statistics is always good for perspective. The Switch seems to be in a good position as far as gamer awareness in concerned. General audience interest seems to be on the low-end, but it’s not bad considering it’s the same as Xbox One. As far as the PS4 Pro and Scorpio are concerned, these numbers prove upgraded systems aren’t as sought-after or important as rabid fanboys think they are.Want to learn more?
