first_imgA unit of Central Reserve Police Force had a close shave as a trained dog detected a pressure bomb in the nick of time during a combing operation in Odisha’s Kalahandi district.A team of the fourth battalion of the CRPF stationed in Rayagada district, led by assistant commandant Kuldeep Singh, had gone to Tiramuhin reserve forest in Niyamgiri area on Friday.“As the team was moving, Dog Mickey of the accompanying dog squad sensed something suspicious in the jungle. Mickey led us to a spot where we found a pressure bomb planted just under the surface,” said Mr. Singh.“The bomb squad of the battalion later defused the bomb,” said Mr. Singh added.“Left wing extremists have of late started planting pressure bombs in the forests, and the forces have to tread cautiously,” said the CRPF commandant. “Moreover, the bomb could have proved fatal even for the villagers who gather non-timber forest produce for a living.”Maoist threatMaoist menace continues to be worrisome for security forces in Kalahandi and Rayagada districts.
